The conference will take place in Aussois, a mountain village resort in the French Alps.
- Click here for essential tourist information on Aussois.
- Aussois is located in the Vanoise national park.
The conference itself will be housed by the Centre Paul Langevin, a dedicated conference centre covering conference rooms, catering and accommodation.
- Click here for information on the conference centre Paul Langevin.
- Regarding accommodation, see our section on “Practical information”.
The conference sessions proper will begin in the morning of Monday, June 22 and will end in the afternoon of Thursday, June 25. A social programme will be organised on June 26.
Aussois is a mountain resort close to the Italian border. Access is through Modane, a small city in the valley some 10 kms below Aussois.
There are train connections from the cities and airports of Paris (Charles-de-Gaulle), Lyon, Torino and Milano (Malpensa). The bullet train from Paris to Torino/Milano stops at Modane. A Paris-Modane travel takes about 4 hours and should cost 60-70 € one way.
Access via Torino is shorter (1 hr 20 mns) and cheaper (currently around 10 € one way). Participants from countries for which a French visa is necessary will receive from the organisers an official invitation letter which will enable them to obtain from the French consulate in their country a Schengen visa allowing them to enter Italy, and then France from Italy.
- Precise train schedules can be found on the bottom of this page.
Transportation tips
Participants from abroad fly to Paris, Lyon, Torino or Milano on Sunday, June 21, 2009; then transfer to Modane by train, arriving at Modane on Sunday in the afternoon or late afternoon.
A conference bus will take participants from Modane train station to Aussois at 7:30 pm, after the train from Paris. Should the 7:21 pm train from Paris (or the 7:05 pm from Torino) have some delay, the bus can wait. You don't need to book for that bus.
A cold buffet dinner will be served upon arrival at the conference centre.
Likewise, the organisers will provide access to a shuttle bus to Modane station in the afternoon of Thursday, June 25 right after the end of the conference, and on Friday, June 26 both in the morning (for those not taking the excursion) and after the final excursion. See the conference programme for schedules.
- Participants arriving or leaving at other times should arrange their own transportation. There is a taxi stand at Modane station, and taxis can be booked by the front desk at Centre Paul Langevin. Taxi rides between Modane station and centre Paul Langevin cost between 40 and 50 euros, regardless of number of persons (up to 8 persons in some taxis). The ride takes around 20 minutes.
To help you organise your trip, we have selected the schedules for trains to and from the conference venue (Modane station).
- Tips: The conference sessions proper should end on the Thursday, 25 June, at 3:15 pm. The excursion should end roughly at the same time on the next day.
- The committee will organise bus trips from Aussois to Modane both on the Thursday and on the Friday, in time for catching the trains of 4:24 and 5:15.
