Studies in the Languages of Island Melanesia

Studies in the Languages of Island Melanesia (SLIM) was an academic ebook series dedicated to peer-reviewed scholarly work on the languages of Island Melanesia. SLIM published six volumes, all Open access e-books, which can be downloaded freely from this page.

I founded the SLIM series in 2012, with the Canberra-based publisher Asia–Pacific Linguistics. In 2020, SLIM was merged into the larger collection Asia–Pacific Linguistics (A-PL), which is now published by ANU Press.

Proposals need to be submitted through the ANU Press online submission form, selecting “A-PL” as the series. The Editorial Board reviews proposals, and arranges for the external review process of the manuscript. While the SLIM series used to provide professional copy-editing for free, ANU Press now asks authors to cover the costs – usually between $1,000 and $2,000 per ms.

A-PL is managed by Dr Bethwyn Evans from the ANU. Inquiries about future submissions may be directed to Dr Evans.

Authors should contact ANU Press to know the precise instructions for new submissions. However, this page will keep below links to the stylesheets I used to recommend for SLIM submissions, in the form of Winword templates – in case they can be helpful to future authors:
